Sounds - A word about SOUNDS!
Sounds can greatly enhance your powerpoint.  But they can also make it cheesy and second rate when you insert silly sounds like screeching brakes and camera clicks.  Consider this when you are using sounds.  Pretend you have to pay for each sound - make it worthwhile and appropriate!

Insert background sound for entire slide show (3 pts) This is nice if you want to have a singular sound throughout the presentation.  Goto Insert  - Movies and Sounds - Sound from File.  These can be sound you download from the Internet.  Or nsert  - Movies and Sounds - Sound from Gallery and get a sound from the CLipArt/Sound Gallery included with MS Office.
A Speaker will appear in f your slide. soundspeaker.jpg (1011 bytes)
Move the speaker to where you want it to live, a corner is preferable.
Goto Custom Animation and the Play Settings Tab will appear. playsettings.jpg (11862 bytes)

  • CLICK Play using animation order
  • Choose to PAUSE or CONTINUE the show
  • Choose how long you wish to play the tune - That is  - for how many slides?
  • More Options - Click this to loop you sound (make it play over and over and over....)
  • MOST IMPORTANT!!!!  if you want the sound to play automatically, you must go to the Timing Tab and click - ANIMATE - AUTOMATICALLY and choose how fast you want it to start playing - ), 0, 1, etc seconds!
Insert sound clips for text, clipart, animations, Tranistions(3 pts) You can add sound to any Custom Animation you create - text, titles, graphics, etc

  • As you choose the effect there is box under it that says No Sound.   Change it and add a cheesy sound from Powerpoint (not reccomended) or scroll to the bottom and add "other sound" (reccomended!!!!!)
  • Go through your sound  files that you downloaded from the Internet (Right click on any WAV or MID file) and insert the sound you desire.
  • It will happen when the animation happens.
  • CAUTION - You have less control over sounds added this way.  It is better to add sound as shown above.
Loop sound clips (3 pts) When you are in the Play Setting Tab of the Custom Animation Window - Click More Options.pay-moreoptions.jpg (11968 bytes)
You can loop it to play over and over.  This is also where you can designate certain tracks form a CD.  I don't recommend this because you cannot send me your CD when you submit your presentation!
