Special Education Training & Resource Center (SETRC)

SETRC provides assistance, support and resources to enable educational personnel to plan, design and develop a Comprehensive System for Personnel Development (CSPD). The CSPD plan fosters positive learning outcomes for children with disabilities. SETRC works collaboratively with local school administrators and teachers to assess their staff development needs and develop programs to address them.

Additional SETRC services:

  • Provides technical assistance to parents and educators children with disabilities.
  • Informs district personnel of courses, workshops, regional training opportunities and satellite conferences.
  • Disseminates information, upon request, about New York State and federal laws and regulations relating to the education of students with disabilities.
  • Participates as a coach to districts undergoing collaborative reviews.

Meeting Diverse Student Needs in the Least Restrictive Environment:

SETRC provides customized staff development to local districts as they work to modify and adapt the local curriculum to maximize the success of special education students in the regular education environment. Educators will learn, practice and apply effective strategies for working with children who have a wide range of academic and learning disabilities.

 

Developing Instructional Support Teams (ISTs)
This 2-day workshop provides participants a unique and powerful way to support children in regular education classroom by developing Instructional Support Teams (ISTs). ISTs focus on instruction, utilization of staff, and classroom strategies to provide the most optimal learning environment to support regular educators in an effort to enhance the education of students needing academic or behavioral interventions.

 

Professional Development Associates

An extensive cadre of associates (independent consultants) offers district-based professional development services based on district need. This bank of associates has been developed to be responsive to the educational challenges staff face working with children with diverse needs.

 

Project REACH

This unique program promotes disability awareness and highlights a better understanding of individual differences among children. It consists of classroom awareness lessons, training for parents and staff, and a series of simulations and debriefing activities for students. Project REACH develops positive attitudes and empathy toward children with differences in order to reduce teasing and name-calling behavior. This comprehensive program is recommended for third and forth graders

Fees: $3000 + (depending on grade level size)

 

State-Mandated Training on Child Abuse

Participants acquire information and skills relating to issues of child abuse and reporting. Upon completion, participants receive the state-mandated certification for licensed and/or certified professionals who work with children

Fees $ 45.00 per participant

 

Support Services program

BOCES staff provides districts with training, support and consultation which is designed to maintain or return students with more severe disabilities to their home school districts. These services to support local school district staff may be provided by one or more professionals with different areas of expertise.

School-Based Speech/Language Therapist Staff Development

This thirty hour in-service course is designed to help the school based therapist work effectively with students to meet the New York State Learning Standards.

Fees: $290.00 per participant
