Mechanical Trades Training Center

Training Today’s Workers and Tomorrow's Workforce
The Mechanical Trades Training Center (MTTC) is an intensive adult training day program in the Air Conditioning/Refrigeration/Heating and Plumbing mechanical trades. Designed as pre-apprenticeship or mechanic training the MTTC program will equip students, successfully completing the program(s), to enter the job market at the apprentice or mechanics helper level. EPA approved refrigerant transition/recovery certification exam (Core, I, II, III & Universal) included. Employment readiness workshops, job counseling and job placement assistance are provided.

 

Air Conditioning/Refrigeration/Heating

Instruction includes: Introduction to refrigeration and A/C theory. Identification and function of electrical components, controls, valves, compressors and evaporators. System assembly, trouble shooting, part repair and replacement. Air handlers, A/C systems & ice machines. Heating systems theory & installation (gas & oil fired). Boiler installation and repair. Oil burner/heating systems trouble shooting, repair & installation. Eye Safety Required. The minimum reading level necessary to enroll in this training course is 7.0. Plumbing

Instruction includes: Theory of installing rough plumbing(PVC and copper). Grades, dimensions & appropriate uses of piping materials. Types & uses of fittings and valves. Tools and supplies for cutting, threading and joining copper and PVC. Layout and installation & testing of supply, drain, waste and vent lines and common plumbing fixtures & devices. Air Conditioning & Refrigeration mechanics and helpers are in demand! Get an introduction to refrigeration and air conditioning theory, including all aspects of the refrigeration and air conditioning cycle, how it works and the types of refrigerants and their uses. Textbook required.

ACR0102 Refrigeration & Air Conditioning 2

Continue your training by learning basic electrical theory including low and high voltage circuits and electrical controls (starters, time clocks, contactors, thermostats, TXV’s, dryers and relays) PRE: Refrigeration & Air Conditioning 1.

ACR0103 Refrigeration & Air Conditioning 3

Build a working refrigeration system with all electrical components and a low voltage heating and A/C circuit board. This hands on training includes pipe and tubing assembly, plus instruction in cutting, flaring and soldering copper tubing. PRE: Refrigeration & Air Conditioning 2. Eye Safety Required.

ACR0104 Refrigeration & Air Conditioning 4

Finish the AC & Refrigeration course series with air handlers, air conditioning systems and ice machines, with hands-on experience and special topics in refrigeration and air conditioning for advance students. PRE: Refrigeration & Air Conditioning 3. Eye Safety Required.

ACR0105 Refrigerant Transition & Recovery Certification

HVACR mechanics, prepare to be certified in the skills for recovering and recycling refrigerants. This course includes the EPA Approved Certification Exam (Core, I, II, III & Universal). If students do not pass the initial exam, they may retest for an added fee of $40, when next offered. (Tuition includes textbook and test)

ACR0106 Oil Burner Repair

Oil Burner maintenance mechanics never get left out when it comes to getting a good job. Start with this hands-on introduction to troubleshooting, servicing and repairing oil burners. This course includes instruction on basic systems, electrical requirements, simple controls, installation applications and burner capacities. Eye Safety Required. Textbook required.

ACR0107 Heating Systems, Troubleshooting and Repair

Water, Steam and Hydro Air are the most common residential heating systems in use today. Gain an understanding of system components and how they work. Learn to troubleshoot common system problems. Develop your skills and acquire the techniques necessary to maintain heating systems at peak performance and efficiency. Eye Safety Required.

PLM0101 Plumbing 1

Our master plumber/instructor will teach you to install rough plumbing using both PVC and copper. Learn the various types and dimensions pipe and their applications, as well as the types of fittings available. Learn to repair and replace common household plumbing fixtures. Practice using the proper tools and supplies for cutting and joining. Begin to solder copper and glue up PVC to make watertight connections using the correct fittings according to standard plumbing practice. Eye Safety Required. Textbook required.

PLM0102 Plumbing 2

Continue your training in the installation of Copper and PVC plumbing in residential settings by learning basic layout and design. Become skilled at sweating copper and gluing up PVC. Practice running water supply and drain, waste and vent lines through residential construction according to standard practice and local codes. Finish by installing common plumbing fixtures. PRE. ELC0103 Electricity and Basic Electronics

A great introductory class for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of electricity and basic electronics. Topics include voltage, current, resistance, capacitance and inductance; Ohm’s law and Kirchhoff’s laws; motors and generators; semiconductors; fundamental electronic circuits; test equipment and troubleshooting techniques. Topics covered can be varied to meet students needs. Textbook and basic pocket calculator required.

ELC0104 National Electric Code/Electrician's Liscense Test Prep.

Investigate and interpret the 2005 National Electric Code and prepare for the Westchester County Electrician's Licensing test. Learn and discuss applying various aspects of the code to local, commercial and residential wiring. Review the main topics covered in the test. Information on test format, items to bring to the test and test taking strategy are reviewed. This is a course not only for Journey level electricians plannig to take the licensing test but for anyone in the electrical trades. Textbook required.
