On your left above the reception desk is one of the
fifteen artillery pieces captured by the Americans during the
battle of Stony Point on July 15, 1779. This weapon is a Coehorn
mortar. It fires an explosive shell in high arc and, weighing
only 83 pounds, is fairly portable.
