Lieutenant Colonel Henry Johnson

After his defeat and capture at Stony Point, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Johnson (1748-1835) requested his own court-martial probably to clear his military reputation. After his exchange as a prisoner, he was tried in New York City in January, 1781 and, though he was found culpable, he and and his men were cited for bravery during the battle, and was apparently given only a reprimand for his role in the defeat. He served at Yorktown (1781) where he was captured again, and after the war, was posted to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Ireland. He was promoted to full General in 1809 and created baronet on 1 Dec. 1818.
