The Flagstaff Battery
This is the Flagstaff battery where Lt. Colonel Francois de
Fleury became the first man to
enter the enemy works; he also removed the British flag with his
own hands. De Fleury received a reward of $500 which he divided
among his men. He later received a medal from Congress, becoming
the only European volunteer to be so honored during the
Revolution.
