Blast Off!

5, 4, 3, 2, 1... BLAST OFF!
by Mrs. Aaron's and Mrs. Zazyczny"s classes

One day a mysterious spaceship landed on the playground at the William O. Schaefer School. Students in Mrs. Aaron's and Mrs. Zazyczny's classes used this spaceship to blast off and discover the wonders of our solar system. The young astronauts researched the planets and their satellites, the concepts of rotation and revolution, the effects of gravity and the results of various space voyages. Computer programs, the Internet and a variety of reference materials in the library aided their search for knowledge as well.
Then the students set out to write their own adventure to present to their families and the WOS school community. The students worked through the complete writing process to create the play "5,4,3,2,1Blast Off!" This play introduced the audience to talking planets, our closest star the sun, a mad scientist set out to destroy Mars, the wonders you can spy through a telescope and how tiring it can be to travel all the way to Neptune and Pluto.
The young astronauts had a successful voyage and came to realize how important it is to take care of one planet which can support life forms. When you spot one of these students with their two feet back on the ground, just ask them!
