INTERNET THREATS

Anyone, whether student or school who receives an internet communication that threatens school violence should:

1. Record the message on their computer hard drive or onto a diskette

2. Printout the message

3. Notify your local police immediately

4. If you do not know how to record, save or print the message, keep the computer on, keep the internet connection active and     call the police.

  • If the message is an instant message exchange and it seems possible to continue the conversation, do so while calling the police and recording the conversation on your computer.

  • There are several ways to record an instant message exchange. Many systems, such as aol, permit a session log to be turned on and record everything that happens online. Otherwise, use a standard cut and paste method to save the conversation as a text file in your word processor.
