NAMES OF SCHOOLS :
Three schools from the early to mid 1800s are as follows:
A- North Tarrytown Public School
North Tarrytown Public School was built in North Tarrytown in the year of 1899. This school was built because of the fact that the town thought that another school was needed so that the schools would not be so cramped.
The North Tarrytown school was built at a cost of approximately $55,000.
B- Cobb School
Cobb School, which is now Morse School, is the oldest of the three schools that I have chosen from. Cobb School, also had more names than any of the other schools. Cobb School was built in 1830.
| C- Pierson School | ![]() |
Pierson School was another school that was built because there was a shortage of space for the students who needed to go to school. Prior to this, the Pierson School was nothing but a good dream. Pierson School was built late 1890s. It is said that the Pierson School is haunted by the ghost of Katrina Van Tassel.
The Hackley Pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade, was built at a cost of $600,000. Hackley Pre- kindergarten was built in February 25, 1969.
WHO WERE THE SCHOOLS NAMED AFTER
These are a list of some people who had their names put on a school building:
A- Frank Romer Pierson
B- William P. Lyon and Charles P. Lyon
C- Miss Cassity Mason
The first school, Irving School, was not exactly named after a specific person, but William P. Lyon and Charles P. Lyon, had a major decision in the school's name.
The second school, Person School, was named after an elderly man whose name was Frank Romer Pierson. It was probably named after him because Frank Pierson was the head of the school board at the time.
The third school, The Castle School, was also a school where an exact name wasnt used for the entire name of the school building. One of the most proficient names in the building of the Castle School though, was a woman by the name of Miss Cassity Mason.
