Adolescents
Adolescent Program: The YMCA
In the early 1900s, the YMCA was founded for young Christian boys. They had spiritual and physical programs. Their major physical program was swimming and their major spiritual program was a church session for the family. In order for members to go in they had to pay $1.00 at the door. In conclusion, the YMCA was a place for young boys to have spiritual and physical things to do.
Now in 1997, the Tarrytown YMCA has changed. It is for people of any age and any religion. They have more physical programs. They have swimming, aerobics, karate, basketball and ballet. They dont have any spiritual programs. Also on Saturday nights they have a program called Saturday Night Live for 7-9th graders. It is from 8:00-10:45pm. During that time you can do anything a regular member would do for only a dollar. Their price for a membership has raised. A membership for a student is $50.00 and a membership for an adult is $360 per year. In conclusion, the YMCA has many more programs than it had in 1904, and it is open and welcome to anyone.
