Soccer Team Dominates Competition by Perry & Steve The boys modified soccer team finished their season on Monday, the fourth of November against Hastings. The boys ended their season with a one to nothing win. They ended the season seven and two, scoring thirty goals and giving up only six. The team captains were Philip, Robert and Arrequin. The team named Cesarthe Most Valuable Player because he was a team player and always tried his best. Robby was named the The Best Offensive Player because of his twenty-nine shots on goal and his six goals. The Best Defensive Player was Ernesto because of his ability to track down other players and clear the ball out. The Rookies of the year were Joey, with four goals and Antonello with a constant defensive effort. The most improved players were Sean and John. The coaches award went to Philip for his sixty-nine saves in goal, which were more than eighty percent of the goals attempted. In general the team played very well. Their passing improved as the season went on. They learned to play as a team, not as individuals. In coach Mormiles opinion, the team played well, they always hustled and gave constant effort throughout the whole year. It was an exciting and fun year. |

Modified Football Team by Joao The boys modified football team finished their season on Saturday, the ninth of November, against Briarcliff. They ended their season as the only undefeated team, beating all six teams they had played. This year, there were nine seventh graders on the team. They were Mitch, Chris, Stefan, Miguel, Scott, Walter, Tony, Zeke, and Joao. I think these nine seventh graders played extremely well for their rookie season. In an interview with Mitch, Mitch said he had fun playing and felt that playing with ninth graders was a fun learning experience. Mitch played quarterback on offense and safety and cornerback on defense. In an interview with Chris, he said that playing modified was fun and next year he is playing again. One thing he did not like was that the ninth graders got more playing time. Chris played guard on offense and inside guard on defense. I would also like to acknowledge the coaches for their great coaching. They prepared the team very well for the games they played. |

What It Is Like To Run Cross Country? by Ariel and Joey In the beginning of the season, it was a lot of work to train for our first meet. It took a lot of hard work to get in shape for running cross country. We had to have ten practices before our first meet came. Our first meet came, and we were all scared that we wouldnt do well. When we got to White Plains Middle School, we saw eight schools there. Then the judges decided that the girls had to go first. All of the girls got scared because it was going to be the first meet for some of them. After the girls went, all of the pressure was off for the boys. When the boys started, they all did their lap and started up the hill, and they were all disqualified for running the wrong way. The cross country season went by so fast. Our last meet was at our very own school. It was not the best meet because three of our teammates were injured. The season had its ups and downs but it was really fun. The people on the team were Ariel, Joey, Hanna, Calvin, Michael, Katie, Chris, Jack and our coach was Mr. Benedict. |

Boys Basketball by Mitch This season, the boy's modified basketball team, made up of seventh and eighth graders, coached by Roy Colsey III, had a pretty good season. We ended up with a final record of seven wins and six loses. Throughout the year, our team had a steady point contribution from all of the players. The team could always rely on a big scoring output from two main players. These players were Fernando, and Nicky. Points were also being scored from many different players, such as Nelson, David , Roberto, and Derek. Rebounds were being grabbed left and right by James, and Ralphy and Mitch were constantly giving out assists. The Horsemen ran into tough competition with Westlake, Mamaroneck, and Ardsley, but we stuck together and overcame a losing season. Tyrell, Edgar , Juan Carlo, and Anthony had many contributions throughout the course of the season, which helped out the team greatly. Coach Colsey helped the team with many different drills that helped our shooting, rebounding, passing and just plain good defense. He also supported us with great encouragement that helped to motivate the team. As the season began to run down, we ran into some problems. A lot of our shots just wouldnt fall. We were having trouble completing our passes and our overall performance was not up to par. We realized that it was going to be tough to compete with other teams, if this kept up. One of the other reasons that we were having a tough time winning was because a lot of the players were injured. Roberto, Mitch, and Nicky were all injured at one point during the season. One thing is for sure, we can look forward to a positive season next year. |

Girls Basketball by Meredith The modified girls basketball season was a good one. The girls won 5 games, lost 6, and tied 1. All of us played very well with tough defense and aggressive offense. We showed a lot of improvement throughout the season. The best game we played all year was probably at White Plains. This was one of the hardest teams we played. We won this game but it was extremely close. The girls on the White Plains team were all much taller than our own team which intimidated us but we used our skill and beat them. We won many of our games with help from Hanna who, by far, scored the most points. Neroliza also helped us a lot by rebounding the ball. Karema was a big help to our team with her tremendous ball handling skills as was Christina with her tough defense. Seven out of the ten starting girls were 7th graders so we are sure to have a strong team next year! |

Week 12 Report by Hiram On week twelve, the game of the week was the Giants victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Tito Wooten was credited with a fumble recovery which he returned for a touchdown and gave the Giants a 10-3 lead at the half. In the second half, another fumble recovery was made by the Giants. This time it would not be taken all the way for a touchdown. On the same possession, the Giants passed the ball for a touchdown, which gave them a 20-3 lead. Well, as you might have thought the Cowboys kicked a field goal to make the final 20-6. Yes, folks, the Giants WON!!!!!. |

Jerry Rice: The Greatest Football Player by Fernando I think that Jerry Rice is the best football player ever. First, Jerry holds all of the receiving records and many other NFL records. He is also known for his ability to make great plays for his team when they needed them. Second, he is the only man in NFL history to have 156 touchdowns by his third year, and 146 receiving touchdowns. He will definitely be in the Hall of Fame. |

Yankees by David The Yankees upset the Atlanta braves by defeating them in the series 3-2. Jim Leritz had a good season. Bernie Williams defined "hot" having a great season. Andy Petite had a great game to lead the Yankees to the World Series win. Derek Jeter won the Rookie of the Year Award and he deserved it. Doc Gooden and Daryl Strawberry also played well. Cecil Fielder was another one to have a good season. You also cant forget that all three of them were newcomers to the Yankees. I think that manager Joe Torre wanted to win for his brother because he was sick. I think that they really deserved the win because they fought for the World Series. After the win, the Yankees had a World Series victory parade. They said that over two million people came to the victory party and they had a great time there. When the Yankees played in the World Series people waited almost two days just to get World Series tickets. But George Steinbrenner was too cheap to get some portable bathrooms for the die hard fans, so it was a real mess. But the fans loved waiting because they knew that they were going to get very good seats! The game was competitive and the Yankees deserved the victory. |

Packers Win Super Bowl by Perry When the last week of the NFL season arrived, the two teams left were the Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots. They met in New Orleans at the Superdome. The Packers were favored by fourteen points. They were armed with many weapons, such as quarterback Brett Farve and defensive lineman Reggie White. The Patriots were under rated and felt very confident. Bill "The Tuna" Parcells led his Patriots to the AFC conference championship. Both teams looked good in the opening quarter. Then, Desmond Howard ran back a 99 yard punt return, which turned the game around. The Packers then took the lead and never lost it. Desmond Howard was named Super Bowl MVP. The Lombardi trophy has now returned home to Green Bay. |
