Advice Column

by Lakeia , Kim , Cindy , and Joselina

Dear Mini,

I am really shy, and I like this boy at school. Most of my friends say that I should ask him out, but I really don't know what to do. Can you give me some advice?

From, Shy

Dear Shy,

The way I see it, if you like someone, you shouldn’t necessarily ask them out right away. You should do the following things:

1) When he walks by you in the hallway, say, "Hi." Introduce yourself.

2) Write him a letter, and ask him a little bit about himself. Hopefully you will become friends, and he will notice you more.

3) Now comes the hard part. Ask him out, don’t be shy, and remember, relax.

From, Mini

Dear Abby,

I have a really bad problem. I like this guy, but I don’t know what to say to him. I’m not sure that I’m his type of girl. He’s smart and really cute. Please help me and give me some inspiration so that I can talk to him.

Sincerely,

Desperately Seeking

Dear Desperately Seeking,

If you like the guy, go for it. Just whatever you do, don’t change yourself for him. If you ask him out, and he says, "No," then maybe he’s not the guy for you. If he says yes, then you do your best to keep him.

From, Mini

In the early 1900’s, Sigmund Freud (the founder of psychoanalysis) discovered a link between our bottled up emotions and physical diseases.

Though, it was not until fifty years ago that stress was defined. A world renown researcher, Hans Selye, said, "Stress is the body’s nonspecific responses to any demand placed on it, whether pleasant or unpleasant. We still use this definition today.

Pollution is one of the things that disturbs our earth the most. It is caused by smokers, cars, any kind of automobiles, and littering the streets and oceans. Some ways we can try to stop pollution is by people who smoke, to stop, instead of using a car, ride a bike or if it is too far, where you want to go, carpool. People stop littering and start to recycle.

Pollution causes disgust, people and animals dying because their environment is too smoky and dirty, and it just looks terrible.

I try as much as possible to keep our earth clean. I hope you do too!

Drugs by Neroliza, Dahiana, & Dione

Today, drugs are destroying many teenagers. Many of them take drugs because of peer pressure. Peer pressure makes people do things that they don’t want to do because they want to be cool. They do not realize that drugs damage the cells in your brain that cannot be replaced. You can become retarded, lose weight and become under-nourished. The most important thing is that you cannot control your emotions and may become violent. Some people rob stores and banks to get money for drugs. When these people get caught, they go to jail.

Sometimes, family members take drugs and that makes kids think that it is acceptable. Also, parents who smoke are exposing their kids to second hand smoke, which means that the kids may become addicted to nicotine without even knowing it.

Teenagers should stay away from people who do drugs. They should

talk to adults and get help before it is too late.

Teens Plead Innocent to Killing Their Baby

by Gustavo

In Delaware, a teen-age couple was accused of dumping their newborn baby into a motel trash can. The mother gave birth to a 6 pound, 2 ounce baby in a Newark motel. The police found the baby in the trash, inside a plastic bag. The child was pronounced dead on the scene.

The trial started on September 9th. The two teens were found guilty of two counts of murder each. The young man is on trial for the death penalty, the woman is sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole.

An autopsy showed that the baby was born healthy and died of skull fractures and brain damage. The defense lawyers insisted that the baby was born with brain damage and the parents did not do any harm.
