Our Experiment
Grades: K-3
Question: Which paper makes paper airplanes that fly the furthest?
Materials:
copy paper
drawing paper
newsprint
pattern for paper airplane
ruler for measuring distance on floor
tape for marking distance on floor
chart for recording distance
Procedure:
Choose paper to create airplane
Fold paper following pattern. (We were lucky. Our eight grade was studying aerodynamics and came to our class to help us fold our planes.)
Mark the floor of a long open hallway in the school if feet
Stand behind the start line and fly your plane
Record distance on chart
Graph distances after all planes have flown
Chart: (this is a sample of one class's graph)

Graph:

Conclusion: In our experiment, paper planes made of drawing paper averaged the furthest distance.
