Ruth Weyland
Ruth Weyland was born on November 7, 1949. She was born in Buffalo, New York. Her ancestors came from Germany and France. Ruth has 4 sisters, 3 brothers, a mom and a dad. She went to St. Edmund's School in Oak Park, Illinois. She was a good student in school. She was an art teacher at a camp and she helped a florist. She teaches art because she loved children and art, too. In 1971 she taught at Park School, a private school in New York. She felt frightened when she first started.
Miss Weyland has been our art teacher here at Pocantico since 1973. Being an art teacher can be messy. Once a student bumped into her and spilled paint all over her, unfortunately she was wearing her best clothes. Her favorite medium to work with is clay. She still teaches art because she enjoys thinking of fun stuff to do and still loves children and art. She makes up a lot of different projects that she uses. She thinks she might still be working as an art teacher for 8-10 more years. We sure hope all of those years are here at Pocantico. Her favorite color is yellow. Her favorite book is "To Kill a Mockingbird" and her favorite T.V. show is "The American Experience." She had a cat named Emma for a pet.
