Teresa Weatherspoon

Teresa Weatherspoon is a great basketball player. Her fans call her T-spoon! She plays for the New York Liberty. Teresa is one of the best players in the WNBA! She wears number 11 to honor her uncle who passed away when she was only 11 years old.

She was born December 8, 1965 in Pineland, Texas. She has two brothers and three sisters. She learned to dribble on a bumpy dirt court in her hometown. She told a writer for Sports Illustrated for Kids that she knew if she could dribble on that bumpy road she could dribble anywhere.

Teresa graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1988. That same year she won a gold medal in the 1988 Summer Olympics. She also won a bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics. She plays guard and is 5 feet 8 inches.

After playing basketball for eight years in Europe, Teresa was drafted by the New York Liberty in 1997. In 2001 she had 72 field goals, 207 points, 10 3 pointers, 118 rebounds, 203 assists, 55 steals, 4 blocks, and 83 fouls. She was a 2 time Defensive Player of the Year is one of the league's best performers. She had 100 steals in 1998 for the second time in a row. Two of her teammates are Sophia Witherspoon and Rebecca Lobo.

When she is not playing ball Teresa likes to listen to Luther Vandross music, play tennis, go bowling and read. Teresa Weatherspoon is a great basketball player. If you are interested in this great woman go see a New York Liberty game at Madison Square Garden.
