Vera WangVera Wang was born in New York City on June 27, 1949. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in New York. When she was 23 she became the youngest fashion editor of Vogue magazine. She worked there for 17 years and then was a Design Director for Ralph Lauren for two years.
Her dream was to become a figure skater, but it died in 1968 at the National Figure Skating Finals where she did not win. She wanted to make a contribution to the sport she loved, so she offered to make costumes for Nancy Kerrigan. By 1994, she became a household name because of her work with Olympic stars.
In 1990 she opened her first store on Madison Avenue in New York City. In 1992 she started a bridal line and added evening dresses in 1993.
In 1998 she designed a "Vera Wang Bride" Barbie doll. Later, she designed another Barbie doll for the Designer Barbie series.
She is most famous for her bridal gowns. They are worn by celebrities like Sharon Stone and Mariah Carey. Other celebrity clients besides Nancy Kerrigan are Alicia Silverstone, Mare Winningham, Penelope Ann Miller, Chynna Phillips, Donna Peele, and Vendela. She has two daughters, ages 6 and 9 who are very lucky, in my opinion, to have such a wonderful mom!
