In 1970, Barbara Walters wrote a book called "How To Talk To Anyone About
Practically Anything" and she's been talking to everyone about everything
ever since.
Barbara Walters was born on September 25, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts to Louis Walters, a nightclub owner and theatrical producer and his wife Dena. Her brother Burton died of pneumonia. Her sister Jacqueline was mentally retarded. Barbara moved a lot when she was young and spent lots of time playing with her sister. Barbara graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York, with a B.A. She planned to be a teacher but she changed her mind and decided to make a career as a reporter. She started by writing news releases at a local NBC station and then took a job at the CBS Morning Show. In 1961 she was hired as a reported for NBC’s Today Show.
Barbara married Lee Guber in December 8, 1963. They adopted a daughter, Jacqueline Dena. In 1964 she was promoted to reported and in 1974 she became the co-host of the Today Show. In 1976 Barbara Walters and Lee Guber were divorced and she signed a contract with ABC News for $1,000,000. In 1976 she also began her first of many "Barbara Walters Specials." In 1979 she began co-hosting the show 20/20. Today Barbara still Co-hosts 20/20 and is Co-host and Co-Executive Producer of The View. In 1986 she married Hollywood mogul Merv Adelson. They divorced in 1992. She has won several Emmy Awards, authored a book and written countless articles.
Barbara Walters is famous for her tough
questions during interviews and for getting the interviews that every other
reporter wants.
