Susan Sarandon
Most
actresses and actors have a hard time getting parts as they get older, but not
Susan Sarandon, she has only gotten better! Sarandon has become one of the
leading female actresses in Hollywood. This is not bad for someone who is fifty
years old.
She was born with the name Susan Abigail Tomalin on October 4, 1946, in New York, NY. She was brought-up in a strict Catholic family and went to Catholic schools. She was definitely a rebel and was always getting into trouble with the sisters.
In the 1960's while still a student in high school she joined Vietnam protests and Civil Rights marches. After graduation she moved to Washington D.C. to attend Catholic University. When she was there she had a double major in Drama and English. Then she married a fellow acting student, Chris Sarandon.
Susan Sarandon started a modeling career and soon she started doing acting roles also. She got her first break in the movie Joe. She went to the audition with her husband Chris. After that she worked quite a bit, but while she was doing it she was still not very well known. She took as many roles as possible in theater, TV and in the movies.
Susan was introduced her as a leading lady in 1975, The Great Waldo Pepper (where she played the love interest of Robert Redford) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (where she played an innocent corrupted.) Her career really took off when she played a mother of a Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby and when she was nominated for her first Academy Award in 1980 for Atlantic City.
Susan and Chris divorced in 1979 and she met Tim Robbins when they were making Bull Durham in 1988. They now have two children. Some of her more recent movies are: Themla and Louise, Lorenzo's Oil, Stepmom, The Client and Dead Man Walking. Susan won an academy award (Oscar) for her performance as a catholic nun who councils a man on death row in Dead Man Walking. Susan lives with Tim and their two children.
