Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale lived from 1820-1910. She was born in Florence, Italy on May 12, 1820 and was named after the beautiful city.

She dedicated herself to improving the care of the sick and wounded soldiers.

In 1854, Britain went to war against Russia. The British secretary of war asked her to guide a group of nurses to help the hurt soldiers. Another important event in her life was she was the first woman to be awarded the British Order of Merit.

Florence Nightingale died August 13, 1910.
