Ann M. Martin
Ann Matthews Martin is the author of the Baby Sitters Club books. She
was born on August 12, 1955. She grew up in Princeton, NJ with parents and with
her younger sister Jane. Growing up Ann loved to read, write, and play with her
friends. She also enjoyed babysitting. She wanted to teach and she graduated
from Smith College with a degree in elementary education and psychology. She
used to be a teacher, she taught a fourth/fifth grade class for one year at a
small school in Connecticut. Ann is now a full time writer and a fabulous one
too! Her ideas for her book come from a lot of different places. Some are based
on personal experiences, like childhood memories, and feelings. All of her
characters are fictional but they are all based on real people. Sometimes Ann
names her characters after people she knows or she chooses names that she likes.
She has written many books like the Babysitters Club, and The Babysitter Little Sisters series. Another series is California Diaries. Her favorite book is Ten Kids No Pets because she loves families and she loves animals. Her favorite Baby Sitter Club book is Kristy's Big Day. Kristy is her favorite babysitter!
In 1990 Ann founded The Ann M. Martin Foundation to provide financial support to causes benefiting children, education and literacy programs, and homeless people and animals. Ann now lives in New York with her cats Gussie and Woody. Her hobbies are reading, needlework, and sewing.
