Juliette Gordon Low
Juliette Gordon Low was born on October 31, 1860 in Savannah,
Georgia. Juliette was called Daisy from a very young age. He family was
wealthy and she attended several important boarding schools. In 1886 she
married William Mackay Low, a friend of the Prince of Wales. As she was
leaving her wedding ceremony a piece of rice landed in ear. It caused an
infection. She already had poor hearing in one ear. This caused deafness
in the other ear. Mrs. Low started the first American troop of Girl Scout
in Savannah in 1915. She got interest in Girl Scouting after she met the
founder of the Boy Scouts. Later she organized a group of Girl Scouts in
Scotland. Low traveled to many other places organizing Girl Scout Troops.
Daisy died of cancer on January 18, 1927 at home in Savannah. She was buried
in her Girl Scout uniform.
