"Beauty is an attitude," Estée Lauder once said. "There's no secret. Why are all brides beautiful? Because on their wedding day they care about how they look. There are no ugly women - only women who don't care or who don't believe they're attractive."

Estée Lauder was born Josephine Esther Mentzer, daughter of immigrants, in Corona, Queens, New York on July 1, 1908. She grew up living above her father’s hardware store. She started her business by selling skin creams to women in beauty parlors in 1922. She married Joseph Lauter (the family later changed the name to Lauder) in 1930. They had two boys but were divorced in 1939. In 1942 they got married again and in 1946 they founded Estée Lauder Cosmetics. They decided that they would only sell the products in the best stores and in 1948 she persuaded the bosses of New York City department stores to give her counter space at Saks Fifth Avenue. That was all she needed, her make up just flew out the door. Estée did her homework and got the best spots in the store and worked hard to sell her products. She personally opened every make up counter in every city where her products were sold.

Estée Lauder was a smart saleswoman. She would give famous women, (those she knew and even strangers) samples of her make up to carry in their purses. She wanted her brand to be known as "the best." She also let shoppers try her products on their hands or faces, gave out free samples, and gave gifts with a purchase.

Estée Lauder was a party girl she would party with celebrities that were rich. I’ am thinking mo-la money. She would give them her perfume. Can you believe that! She also could seat 30 people at her big table Cool! In 1953 Estée came out with a new bath oil called youth dew also none as doubled perfume.

Lauder and both of sons are billionaires WOW! With the sales going up every year. Lauder died of cardiopulmonary arrest on April 26, 2004. We will all remember Estée lauder as a great women in history.
