Barbara Jordan
Barbara Jordan was born February 21, 1936 in Houston, Texas. Her
father's name was Benjamin and her mother's name was Arlyne. She had two older sisters.
Their names were Bennie and Rose Mary.
Barbara went to an all-black public school in Houston. She was always a good student. She always got A's and one B on her report cards. She went to Phillis Wheatly High School, which was named after the famous poet.
She was the first woman ever elected to the Texas Senate, and the first black elected since 1883. She made a speech that made her famous. Barbara C. Jordan died 1996.
