Barbara Jordan

Bj2.gif (23128 bytes) Barbara Jordon was born in Houston, Texas in 1936. She went to college and became a teacher and a politician.

Ms. Jordan was the first black woman to work in the Texas Senate. She worked for civil rights. She was elected to the U.S House of Representatives in 1972. She was known for her great speeches.

Barbara Jordan died in 1996. She was 60 years old. Jordan was a black woman politician who spoke out against the unfair treatment of both whites and blacks.
