Jane Goodall
Jane Goodall made the world think differently about
chimps.
Jane was born April 3, 1939 in London, England. She went to a private school in Bournemoth and loved animals. She was a good student but she did not like school at all. One time she waited in the chicken coop for at least five or six hours just trying to see where the eggs were coming from! Her parents were divorced when she was eight years old, and she never saw her father very much. His name was Mortermor and her mother's name was Vanne, and a young baby sister named Judy. When she grew up she got a job in the jungle in Africa, and spent a lot of time working with chimps. Jane learned things about chimps that no one knew before, with the help of the Leklys, her assistant. After a while the chimps began to trust her and let her watch them. Putting tags with numbers on them did not help Jane to remember which chimp was which. Instead, she named them. She was married twice. Her first husband was Hugo and her second was Derek. Jane did not die yet and if she was never born the world would not think of chimps the way they do now!
