In 1969, Joan Cooney had a good idea for a TV programs. The show was Sesame Street. Today 14 million kids tune in each day for Sesame Street. It helps kids get ready for school.
She found that children were interested in fast action, cool music, and cartoons. She was sure children were learning from TV. She was worried about what they were learning. So she created a TV show called Sesame Street. The government and private groups gave her money to develop a TV program for preschoolers. It was very good. She made two more TV shows, The Electric Company, 3-2-1-Contact. Jane Ganz Cooney has made TV better for kids.
