Jill Ker Conway

Jill Ker Conway was born on October 9, 1934 in Hillston, New South Wales, Australia. She lived in the outback of Australian until her father died in 1945. Then her family, her Mom and two brothers moved to Sydney, Australia. Growing up, she went to school at the neighborhood private schools and university, graduating from the University of Sydney in 1958. In the 1960 she moved to the United States and got her Ph.D. in history from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has accomplished lots of things like being the vice president of the University of Toronto in Canada and the first woman president of Smith College from 1975 - 1985. She was very interested in education for women. Did you know that Jill wrote many books. Her first was called The Road from Coorain? Also she wrote other books including True North: A Memoir, and The Politics of Women's Education. Jill Ker Conway is a historian and scholar.
