Julie Andrews

Julia Elizabeth Wells also know as Julie Andrews was born in Walton-on-Thames, England on October 1, 1935. When she was 4, her parents divorced and Julie lived with her mother and stepfather. Her mother played the piano in a music hall. Her stepfather was a singer. When Julie was little she took ballet and tap lessons. She stared to perform with them in their act.

Julie was a hit with English audiences and got a job in The Boy Friend on Broadway in New York City. She celebrated her 19th birthday the day after the musical opened. Julie then appeared in the theatre musical My Fair Lady. Walt Disney saw her in the musical Camelot and thought she would be perfect for his new movie, Mary Poppins. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1964 for Mary Poppins. She is famous for her work in My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins but she has made lots of movies. (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hawaii, Torn Curtain and Victor/Victoria) Now she lives in California with her producer-director-writer husband Blake Edwards. They have children of the own and two Vietnamese orphans they adopted in 1974.
