Levi Strauss and the Birth of Blue Jeans

Levi Strauss was a German immigrant who moved to America with his brother and sisters in 1847. Levi began his life in America as a peddler and sold dry goods. One of the items he sold was a strong canvas material.

Levi Strauss Designs the First Pair of Jeans

He wanted to patent the process but needed a business helper, so he turned to Jacob Davis from whom he purchased some of his fabric. He designed his first pair of jeans in California. they were popular because they were sturdy and they would last for a long time. The pants had metal rivets at the points where they might come apart like at the pockets. Miners, cowboys, lumberjacks, and other men liked the jeans because they needed comfortable, durable pants.

Leviís Gold

He made pants that were stronger and built to last. His jeans were so popular he could not even keep up with the demand, he could not make them fast enough. Levi jeans later became the symbol of youth culture in the 1960s.

Levi's Strauss died on September 26, 1902 at the age of 73. People wear Levi's and other brands of jeans, clothing created by an entrepreneur who responded to the needs of the customer.
