William Clark
by Glen

William was one of six brothers. He fought in the American Army. Much of his life before the Expedition was spent in the army. His older brother George Rogers Clark had been a hero of the American Revolution and this inspired William to become a captain of a special company of expert rifleman.

William Clark loved boats and became an expert at handling riverboats. He led an expedition down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to what is now Memphis. This gave him lots of experience in exploring and being away from home. He liked to do these kinds of things and be adventurous.

William was always a happy person. He liked almost everyone he came in contact with and was liked by everyone. He was said to be a natural leader as well. People said he was good at dealing with Native Americans whom he liked and respected. He was interested in the way they lived and wanted to learn about them.
