Wisconsin is an exciting state. It is located in the North Central region of the United States. Wisconsin is bordered by Lake Superior on the north and by the upper peninsula of Michigan on the northeast. Michigan forms its eastern border and Illinois is the state to Wisconsin south. The states of Iowa and Minnesota border Wisconsin on the west.

There is much to learn about Wisconsin. The climate in Wisconsin is very cold in the winter with only short warm summers. The size is 65,499square miles. This ranks Wisconsin in the 22nd largest state in the United States. Its population in 1994 is 5,081,658 that's a lot of people. An important city in Wisconsin is its' capitol Madison. Other important cities are Milwaukee and Green Bay.

Wisconsin has many important state symbols. Wisconsin state slogan is "America Dairyland." The Muskellunge is Wisconsin's state fish. Did you know the state bird is the Robin? Another interesting fact is then state tree is the Maple Tree and the flower is the wood violet. Also Wisconsin's state wildlife animal is a white tailed deer. The state motto is it's "Forward''. The state insect is the honeybee and Wisconsin's state song is ''On Wisconsin''.

Wisconsin has many different landforms. The important rivers are the Mississippi, the St. Croix, Fox River and Green Bay. The St. Croix flows into Lake Superior. Green Bay has Sugar brush hill. Wisconsin has 15,513,000 acres of forestland. The central part of the state has lowlands. It is a low-lying area. The Superior upland occupies northern Wisconsin and has very hard rocks; most of her area is covered by forest.

Wisconsin has many interesting facts about history. The name of the state was taken from the Chippewa Indian word "Wees Konsan" meaning the gathering of water. It is called " The place of the beaver" and also called the Badger State. The Paleo Indians appeared.

During the Ice Age and were the earliest inhabitants. Jean Nicolet was the first European to reach Green Bay in 1634. In 1763 France ceded Wisconsin to Great Britain then Britain ceded it to the United States in 1783.

Wisconsin has interesting and fun places to visit. One place I would like to visit is Apostle Island to go fishing. I like football so I want to see the Green Bay Packers Football team. It would be fun to see a game.

People in Wisconsin celebrate a lot of customs. I learned that one of them is the Great Circus Parade featuring restored 19th Century wagons. The next one is Lumberjack World Championship. Oshkosh is the site of the Experimental Aircraft Fly in convention.

Wisconsin manufactures many different things. It employs many people to help make industrial machinery and farm equipment. Another chief industry is the making of computer paper products and also printing and publishing. Manufacturing is widely distributed but the Milwaukee area accounts for more than 1/3 of the state's industrial income.

Wisconsin ranks low among the state in mineral resources. The state produces stone, sand and gravel, copper and lime. The once important high-grade iron ore reserves are no longer available. Wisconsin has ample supplies of sandstone, limestone, quartzite and silica sand. The state is the country's 2nd largest producer of dimension stone used for building.

Wisconsin's nickname is "America's Dairyland." Dairy and crop farming have a big part in Wisconsin's economy. Wisconsin is first among the states in its number of milk cows and is second in fluid milk production. Beef, hogs and eggs are also important livestock products. Wisconsin is a Corn Belt state. Other leading crops are hay, soybean, potatoes and oats.

I enjoyed doing this project because I learned a lot of new information about Wisconsin. I Thought it was going to be a difficult project but it turned out not to be. First, I got all the books from the library and did research on it. Then I got more information from the computer and then I began to write little paragraphs on each section. This report gave me some ideas how to do research and how to collect material for my future projects. It was really fun to do it. Wisconsin is a lot more interesting to me now than it was before my assignment.
