Nevada What is the state for gambling? You guessed it Nevada. Which is in the northwest. It has earned its place in gambling history. It's the first legal gambling state. Nevada is one of the Rocky Mountain States. Nevada borders many states including Utah and Arizona. The 36th state, Nevada has 3 nicknames! The Sagebrush State because its state plant is the Sagebrush, second the Battle born state because there were many battles in Nevada and last but not least the silver state because once in Virginia City the streets and sidewalks were paved with silver, but there is no more silver now. Nevada is home of the mountain blue bird, and to the desert big horn sheep (animal). Many people think that Las Vegas is the capital of Nevada, but it's not, Carson City is the capital of Nevada. There are some strange facts about this state too, like, it has many more deserts than rivers but yet Nevada survives. Nevada is 110,567 sq. miles total; it has approximately 2,000,000 people in those 110, 567 square miles. Have you heard of Elvis Presley or Wayne Newton? Well they were all born in Nevada and did many concerts in Nevada. Nevada has many natural resources above and below ground like coal, trees, rivers and more. Below ground gold, silver mercury and iron. They grow many different crops and raise cattle and hogs (pigs). It is usually very warm, especially in the summer but when it's cold it's very cold. Nevada manufactures many goods like plast0ics and lawn machinery and most importantly computer machinery. Nevada's working very hard to prevent the Y2K problem that should be here in the year 2000. It seems like they have already prevented it but that doesn't stop them from still working on the Y2K problem. Have you heard of the Pony Express well it was started in Nevada, for many years the Pony Express delivered mail all across the United States; its main headquarters was in Nevada many horses stopped there for a kind of pit stop. Many years passed with success until most of the horses were not strong enough to ride any more. The company didn't have enough money to buy any more new, strong and fast horses so they had to close it down, and anyway we have better mailings today then back then. Youve had to hear about Hoover Dam, the dam that produces most of Nevada electricity, well if you haven't I'll tell you all about it. In 1928 it was started and in 1936 it was finished, if the Hoover Dam wasn't built there would be hardly any electricity in Nevada today. So that is my story about Nevada, so if you want to go to Nevada it would be better to be over 21. |
