Can you guess the original home of Coca-Cola? Well, if you can't guess, it is Mississippi. The location of Mississippi is in the southeastern part of the United States. The Gulf of Gulf of Mexico, Tennessee, and Alabama border it. Mississippi's climate is warm weather with an average temperature is 62°F. It is the 32nd biggest state, and is 48,434 square miles. The population of Mississippi is 2,697,243. Mississippi capital is Jackson. It became the capital in 1822. Some other major cities are Meridian, Jackson, Natches, Vicksburg, and Clarksdale.

Mississippi has many state symbols. Their tree is a Southern Magnolia. The state flower is the Magnolia, and the state bird is the Mockingbird.

Some landforms are Mississippi River, low fertile delta, gulf coastal terraces, piney woods, prairie; and rugged, high, sandy hills.

Mississippi was explored by the Spanish and colonized by the French. The Choctaw Indians and Natchez Indians lived there. Europeans went there during 1539-1543. Hemanto DeSoto was a Spanish explorer. Indians died from diseases brought over by the French. The French came to settle in Biloxi. Then the British came to rule. Mississippi finally became a state in 1783. Mississippi; became the king of cotton. They wanted to win the Civil War because they need slaves to help run the plantations that grew cotton. The South wanted to leave the USA. During the Civil War Mississippi was destroyed so they needed reconstruction. No more slaves were allowed.

Recreation is important in Mississippi. Mississippi is the only state that holds a Mississippi Hospitality Pageant. They also have the Biloxi shrimp festival. Mardi Gras is held in Pascagoula and Natchez. There is a Jubilee Jam Art and Music Festival. Mississippi has a sky parade with 200 gigantic, hot air balloons floating in the air. Gambling is very popular also in Mississippi.

I learned things about Mississippi's economy. I learned they manufacture many things like ships, airplanes, lumber, clothing, furniture, and make transportation equipment paper surgical supplies. They also grow and raise products. They grow cotton and soybeans and here are things that they raise: poultry, eggs, hogs, shrimp, oysters, menhaden, and catfish.

In Mississippi they have natural resources. Above ground they have among the top ten producers of timber, rice, sorghum, sweet, potatoes, pecans, and soybeans. It is the home of cotton; it is their major crop-growing product. Below ground there is crude oil natural gas and sand gravel and clay.

I hoped you liked my state report and that you enjoyed reading it.
