After a nice visit in Texas I headed for Louisiana. It
was just as hot in Louisiana as it was in Texas. I saw lots of cotton
farms and sugar cane growing. As I headed south from Shreveport I saw
lots of great places to fish. It was a long drive to the state capital
in Baton Rouge. Did you know that Louisiana is nicknamed "the
pelican state" because of all the pelicans that live along the
coast? Baton Rouge is on the Mississippi River. Its name means "red
stick." From there I followed the Mississippi to Louisiana's most
famous city, New Orleans. I was just in time for "Mardi Gras."
I got to hear some great jazz and eat some wonderful spicy foods! My dad
had warned me it would be WILD! He was sure right! It was time to go and
visit Mississippi!
