I drove my truck to Alabama. My first stop was in Huntsville to see the
U.S. Space Camp. I got to build a rocket and get into a simulated
space shuttle. I didn't want to leave! From there I drove south to
Birmingham. It was a very hot drive. Birmingham is Alabama largest city.
Then off to the state capital, Montgomery. The first White House of the
Confederacy is in Montgomery. It was Jefferson Davis' home during the
early years of the Civil War. Montgomery also has the Civil Rights
Memorial. I continued south to Mobile, a port on the Gulf of Mexico.
On my drive I saw lots of cotton, soybeans and peanuts. There were also
many mines. In Mobile, I enjoyed some fresh catfish. There were many oil
drilling rigs too! There were many old mansions too. I sure would love to
go for a swim and cool off before I head off to Louisiana!
