GENERAL INFORMATION

Ohio's location is in the mid-western area of the United States. The usual climate is 52 degrees. Ohio is 31,222 square miles, and ranks 35th biggest state in US. The population is 10,797,624 people. Columbus is the capital of Ohio, some other major cites are Toledo, Akron, Dayton, Cincinnati and Cleveland. The highest and lowest areas of Ohio are Campbell Hill at 1,550 feet and the Ohio River at 433 feet. Some other important rivers are Muskingum, Miami and Little Miami. The state flower of Ohio is the Scarlet Carnation, and the state bird is the Cardinal.

ECONOMIC

Ohio is a great manufacturing state it makes rubber, automobiles, glass, steel, vacuum cleaners and leather. Ohio also raises cows, poultry and hogs. Ohio has many natural resources above and below ground. Above ground there are fruits, vegetables, salt and trees. Below ground there are limestone sandstone, rich soil, natural gases and coals.

SOCIAL

Ohio was where the Iroquois used to live a long time ago. Ohio residents think that it got its name from the Iroquois word "Ohio" means great and beautiful. It was the 17th colony to be named a state. Some customs of Ohio are The Toledo Festival of Arts, the Cherry Festival, Grape Jamboree and drinking Tomato Juice. Some recreation areas of Ohio are the Cincinnati Red Stockings and the Hopewell Culture National Park.
