My state report is on the state of Nevada. It is located in the western states. The climate is very dry and hot. Nevada is 110,540 square mile in size and it has over 800,000 people living there. The capital city of Nevada is Carson City. Other cities are Las Vegas, Henderson, and Sparks.

Nevada is part of the Great Basin. It has three main mountain areas. They are the Cascade Mountains, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the Rocky Mountains. The longest river in Nevada is the Humbodt River. Valleys are too little to farm and the mountains are very steep and rocky.

Traveling through Nevada you will be able to see the mountain bluebird, which is the state bird and the Nelson bighorn which is the state animal. The single-leaf pinon is the state tree. The state nickname is "The Silver State" and the State flower is the sagebrush.

In 1859 a huge silver deposit called the Comstock Lode was discovered. Many people came to Virginia City to find silver. IN 1860 Nevada became a territory and in 1865 it became the 36th state. In 1909 gambling was allowed in Nevada. It is still there today. Nevada is know for its aviation manufacturing company. There they make all types of aircraft.

They also have a company called Bigelow-Sanford Carpet company. Here they make a variety of carpets. Carpets are made of different colors and materials.

Alfalfa hay is Nevada’s richest plant. Nevada was the first state to grow alfalfa. The alfalfa plant came from Chile. People in Nevada enjoy going to the rodeo. If anyone is not wearing western cloths, they will get a coin fine. One of the main tourist attractions is the rodeo which takes place in Reno every year.

If you are interested in the history if Nevada, you can visit the Museum of Nevada Historical Society. Here they have the finest collection of Indian and prehistoric people.

I liked learning about Nevada because it was something new to me. I learned about different kinds of things that they grow and the different if recreational activities. The history of Nevada was not that exciting to me but it taught a lot about the state of Nevada.
