Massachusetts is located in the northeastern part of the United States. Massachusetts has warm summers and cold winters. 5,737,037 is the population of Massachusetts. Massachusetts is 8,257 square miles. It’s the 6th smallest state. The capital is Boston. Other important cities are Worcester, Springfield, New Bedford Cambridge, Brockton, Fall River, and Quincy. The Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock, which is an important landform to Massachusetts. Mount Greylock is another important landform that is the highest peak in Massachusetts. Other important landforms are the Appalachian highlands, which is a great mountain system, Cape Cod Bay that has many a beach, Walden Pond which is in the northeastern part of Massachusetts, and finally the Connecticut River which is the longest river in New England. Massachusetts has lots of symbols and facts that represent its state. For example, the official name of Massachusetts is Commonwealth of Massachusetts, other symbols and facts are, the nickname is the Bay State, the state animal is the Morgan Horse, the state bird is the chickadee, the state fish is the cod, the state tree is the American Elm, the state flower is the Mayflower, the state song is "All Hail To Massachusetts", words and music by Arthur J. Marsh, and finally the state motto is " By the sword We Seek Peace, But Peace Only Under Liberty."

The history of Massachusetts is very interesting. For example some famous places are Plymouth Rock which is where the Pilgrims landed, and Lexington and Concord which is where the Revolutionary War started. Massachusetts became a state on February 6, 1788. Some famous people are Bartlett A. Giamatti who was an educator and sports executive. He was born on April 4, 1938 and died on 1989 and William Morton who was a dentist and pioneer anesthetist. He was born on August 9, 1819 and died on 1868.

Guess what? Massachusetts had the most famous events in the 1600s and 1700s than any other state in the United States. Some of these famous events are the first colonists; the Pilgrims sailed to Massachusetts on the Mayflower. Later English people called puritans arrived. The Puritans founded Boston and America's first Public school.

A few important festivals in Massachusetts are the Saint Patrick's Day Parade in Holyoke (March 17), the Scallop Festival in Buzzard Bay (October), and the Bay State Games in Williamstown and North Adams (February).

A few good recreation places you should go to if you go to Massachusetts are the Old Sturbridge Village, which has lots of homes and stores, Cape Cod, Walden Pond, Boston, and you should go and watch the Red Sox play baseball and the Celtics play basketball.

Massachusetts manufactures a lot of important things. For example it manufactured the first power looms and the most important things they made was paper and metalworking. Massachusetts grows cranberries by the hundreds and they raise cows. They also grow tobacco.

Guess what? Massachusetts has forestland that covers more than 3 million acres of land. The things scientists have discovered below ground are sand, gravel, iron, and lime. Massachusetts has beautiful scenery and good places to visit, so next time you have vacation go to Massachusetts!!!!
