Louisiana The name of The State in my report is Louisiana. It is near Texas and Mississippi in the southern part of our country. The climate is hot and humid. The population is over 4 million people. The size of Louisiana is 48,523 square miles. The Baton Rouge and other important cities are New Orleans, Shreve Port, Lafayette. Louisiana has many land forms. It has lowlands only 50 feet above sea level. Mississippi River Delta easily floods. This state also has many lakes. It is a low lying Plain. Traveling through Louisiana you might see the Louisiana brown Pelican the state bird or the Bold Cyress the state tree. You might even see a magnolia the state flower. You might also hear the state song "Give Me Louisiana." Louisianas nickname is "The Pelican State". Louisiana is the most colorful State. The Tchefunete people were the earliest group to settle in Louisiana. Several native tribes lived there Louisiana Indians lived in huts but teepees were hot used often. Their remains can be found at the Tehefunct State Park and near Lake Catherine. The Marksville people were advanced people who settled in Marksville. They new how to use copper and were able to gather copper from the Great Lakes. They used shells from the Gulf of Mexico to make pottery, Marksville people built homes and temples shaped like pyramids. There are many things you can do for recreation in Louisiana. You can visit the French Quarters that features the St. Louis Cathedral. There are also jazz concerts, collage football, games, the super bowl. If you enjoy outdoor activities, there is fishing, boating, camping, and swimming. Some customs in Louisiana are the Mardi Gras which is called Fat Tuesday. People dance to jazz music and have parades. They listen to Dixie and jazz. In Louisiana some people work in factories. They make glass products, metal, transportation equipment. People grow peppers, Citrus fruits, Strawberries, tobacco and shallots. The natural resources are oil, iron and water. Iron is the largest know ore. Dill is there greatest treasure. At first I thought that studying about Louisiana was boring. I learned that Louisiana is a colorful State and it has a lot of activities for recreation. The history of Louisiana was very interesting. |
