Major League Baseball
Comes to Pocantico

Brian Sweeney, a Major League baseball player for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, visited Pocantico Hills on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 for a school assembly. He met with students in grades 4 through 8 to discuss athletics as a career, where he stressed the importance of following your dreams, never giving up, and showing good sportsmanship. Glen Robinson, of 5G stated, "I liked his message of exercising your mind." After his encouraging speech, Brian spent the better part of two hours signing autographs for students.

Brian has played for the San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners and is invited to spring training with the Devil Rays, where he will compete for a spot in the starting rotation. Brian's career is highlighted by a 3-2 victory over Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks in his first major league starting appearance. Brian's message of determination and hard work is an inspiration to all of us at Pocantico and we wish him good luck in pursuit of his dream!
