Trapdoor Spider
by Kira & Kim

This is where a trapdoor spider lives. It lives in a burrow with a door made of sticks and leaves. The door has hinges. Most trapdoor spiders live in the southern and western states. If there were a flood, the spider would climb up the side of the burrow and try to survive. This is pretty weird but the trapdoor spider is related to the tarantula because they both live in a burrow. A trapdoor spider may live as long as fifteen, twenty, or even twenty five years. This might be a little frightening. When the trapdoor spider feels the vibration of it's passing prey it rushes out, it captures the prey and takes it in the burrow. These are the ways they are born. Trapdoor spiders are born in the spring and grow up in the summer. They are adults in the fall. That is all we have to say about the trapdoor spider.
