The Moon
Did You Know?
The Earth's Moon is the fifth largest in the whole solar system.

If a car was going 60 mph it would take 11 hours to get across a crater.
The moon has no air or atmosphere.
The moon is made of soil, rock, gray sand, and ice.
From the Earth to the moon it would take about 30 Earths to get to the moon.
In the daytime the moon could get as cold as -220 F.
The footprints left behind by the Apollo astronauts will last for millions of years without blowing away.
The Earth's one natural satellite, the moon, is more than one quarter the size of Earth itself [3,456 km. diameter]. The moon does not posses any atmosphere, so there is no weather as we are used to on earth. During the day temperatures can reach 104 degrees C 222 degrees. The sun produces a stream of wind that billows into space. When the moon is between the Earth and the sun the near side of the moon is dark. When the moon appears smaller then a quarter, we call it a crescent. If today the moon were a waxing crescent, then tomorrow the crescent shape would continue to grow larger, approaching first quarter.

Did you know that if you walk on the Moon your footprints would stay there because there is no wind to blow them away?
But because there is no atmosphere to trap heat, on the Moon the temperatures could rise up to 100°F at noon and - 173°C at night.
The Moon looks like it has it's own light but it's actually the Sun's reflections.
Did you also know that the moon has no atmosphere.
If someone puts their footprints in the moon it will stay for a thousand of years.
