A Goldfish
by Lyndsey

Napa was walking to the sea to get food for supper. She caught a seal. Then she went home so her family could eat. On the way home she heard a voice, it was coming from a hill in the distance. So she walked up to it, it was a fish. She asked fish what was the matter, he said, "I am about to die, but I need you to do me a favor."

"What would you like me to do?" Napa said.

"I want you to get me a gold sheet for my skin, " said the fish.

"I'll try to get you that," said Napa. So Napa went to the crow to see if he had any, but he only had a black sheet which wouldn't work. So she went to the owl and asked him if he had any. He had one so he gave it her and she went back to the fish. The fish asked her to lay it over him and that was how goldfish were created.

Napa went back to her hut and brought the seal to her family, they loved it. They did plus now she had just seen the first goldfish.

by Kristen D.

When Lush was young she lived with her Grandmother. She was born in Greenland and became very famous there. Her Grandmother liked to dance. She taught Lush how to dance. Lush loved to dance and learned different dance steps from her Grandmother. Grandmother told her she could become a great dancer, and Lush practiced really hard. When she was dancing she stepped into Grandmother's shoes and magically disappeared. She found herself among a group of fairies who were dancing. They told her all the secrets of dancing. The Eskimo Girl
by Chris

On a cold and snowy day on the Alaskan Tundra, a little Eskimo girl named Kitsu went fishing with her father.

Most of the ocean was covered with ice, except some of the ice had large ice cracks, which were big enough to fall through and drown. Kitsu's father told her to stay near him and not to wander out of his sight. Kitsu said, ''OK'' but later she forgot what her father said. When her father wasn't looking Kitsu wandered off far away. She was so excited because she saw a fish swimming at the top of a large ice crack. She turned around to call her father to come to spear it, but she realized she was all alone. She was really frightened because she didn't know where her father was. It was getting late and dark. Suddenly, she heard a voice calling from the crack in the ice. It was a fish. He said, ''Do you want to know where your father is?''

She said,'' Yes, How did you know?''

I know everything.'' he said. You must say to yourself, ''I wish I could be back with my dad two times, fast!''

Suddenly the fish vanished into nowhere. Kitsu did what the fish said and in a flash, she was back with her dad.

How The Sun Got In The Sky
by Patrick

One day while little Olyuig was sitting on a stone he threw his lasso high into the air Up, up, up I went until it was out of site. Little Olyuig was very excited! Three month later it came back down but the lasso wasn't the only thing that came down. It came down with a HUGE asteroid.

WHAM! It hit the earth leaving a permanent mark. There it sat. Olyuig was filled with pride. Then he got the funny idea of how to make light. He put all the things that were wood he could find on the asteroid. The more he put on the higher it rose. Soon he had to use his lasso to get more things on it. Finally it was back in its normal position.

How the Tundra got It's Light
by Kristen H.

One day there was a big snowstorm. All of the villagers were worried. It had lasted for three days already and it would not stop. All of the people were scared that they will die because they could not go outside to hunt for food in the storm.

Then a little boy said, " I have a good idea! We could do the rain dance and turn the snow in to rain." He told the rest of his plan. They all started to do the rain dance and rain came pouring down from the dark cloudy sky. Everybody started to cheer. They could go hunting if it was raining and there crops would grow.

All of a sudden, a circle appeared out of nowhere. The people all wondered why a circle would appear out of nowhere. Then the little boy said " I know why! It's giving us light!" Everybody said "What? How does it give us light?

"You'll see the boy said. Just wait and see. Just wait and see." All of a sudden a loud " BOOM" was heard from the sky. The little boy thought, "my plan will come out perfectly." He went to a secret place and got a mirror. Then when he got back there was a flash of lightning coming toward him. He put the mirror in him and the lightning reflected all the way to the round circle. The circle started to get brighter, brighter, and brighter until it was so bright that it filled up the whole Tundra. And that is how the Tundra got their light.

The Polar Bear
by George

Once upon a time, there was a polar bear. He was feeling sad because he was white and everything around him was colorful. He could be seen easily and he couldn't hide or catch food. The clouds wanted to help him so they covered his world with white flakes. This was the beginning of snow.

How Snow Came to Be
A Tundra Legend
by Kira

A long time ago the tundra was perfectly bare all year. It had no snow at all. One day an Eskimo man named Naishé set out on a long journey southeast to Vermont. He was gone for many moons and when he returned, he told the village about what he saw.

This is what he said,- "In the strange land of Vermont, they had this weird thing on the ground called sn…o..w. That’s it-it was called aniu. It was cold, and white and, and, and,…."

"We will go get some." yelled a village boy whose name was Bakié. "We could go together."

"Ya!" "Ya!" "Ya!" said all the villagers.

"Tomorrow we will leave very early." Said Naishé. So the next morning they woke very early, and left. After traveling for a long time over the frozen ground they reached Vermont by dog sled. Naishé stepped off the sled and helped Bakié down.

"Aniu!" aniu"! "aniu!" yelled Bakié.

"Hurry up." Said Naishé. "Load up the aniu."

They started to put the snow on the sled. It was so cold that the snow could not melt. They returned home and showed the people what they had.

"Dump it off!" they yelled. So Naishé and Bakié dumped the snow off and magically it began to snow. Everybody jumped up and down.

"Aniu! aniu! aniu!" they all yelled.

That is how snow came to be in the tundra region.   Now almost every day it snows there and everyone is bundled up in parkas and heavy suits. Snow has become part of the Eskimos' life.

How The Stars Got In The Sky
by Paul

Once a great man who was excellent with a bow and arrow put ten thousand small arrows in his bow. The arrows had fire on the tips of them, and he shot them high in the sky. The God left out his blanket by accident, and the arrows stayed up glittering high in the sky. But then one day the God noticed the blanket and picked it up. The sky no more had glittering stars, instead they got what they had in the first place, a plain dark dull sky.

The villagers were very sad. They hired the best bow and arrow shooters, but it was no use. They were unable to light up the sky. The God saw how sad the villagers were and he put his blanket back.

A young boy named Soaik tried one last time to shoot an arrow and he struck the blanket . It glittered in the sky so he shot another and another. They stayed up and the sky was brilliant. Thanks to little Soaik, there are stars in the sky.
