Nanny's Bedspread
A cherish object that was
handed down in my family is my great-grandmother's bedspread's. Nanny, my
deceased great-grandmother, brought this spread with her when she left Italy to
come live in the United States in 1932. Her mother gave this to her. Nanny used
this bedspread until she died. My grandmother then gave it to my mother as a
remembrance of her Nanny because she always loved its beauty.
The bedspread is very simple, but elegant! The color is an antique white and it has pretty, delicate white lace around it. A beautiful bouquet of tinny, off-white flowers are embroiled in the center of the spread. The spread covers a full-size bed, however my mom uses it as a blanket. It is warm, heavy, and soft. The antique color gives it an old-fashioned look witch fits my nanny's era. When my mom looks at it, it reminds her of her nanny because she was also very small and delicate. My mom feels Nanny's warmth and comfort each night when she sleeps. Dreams of soft, orchestra music plays in the background.
I hope that one day this cherished treasure will be passed onto me. Anything that mom feels is special will also be special for me. I am very close to me grandmother like my mom was to hers. I can feel the importance of the spread. It would be an honor if my mom saves it for me! Mother to daughter, daughter to her daughter and so on….
