John was born July 8, 1839. In 1843 John moved to Moravia, NY. In 1846 John raised wild turkeys to sell. He saved part of the money and gave some to the Baptist Church. John's family moved to an area near Cleveland and John got his first job on September 16, 1853. He always celebrated that as Job Day. John and a friend opened their own business in1859. E. L. Drake drilled the first oil well in Titusville, Pa. John was interested in the oil business because he thought that he would make a lot of money and he liked that. In 1863 he opened his own oil refinery outside of Cleveland, Ohio. John gave $600,000 to a small school in Chicago and lots more money to other schools and charities. John D. Rockefeller died at the age of 97 and he died on May 23, 1937.
