John Davison Rockefeller was born July 8, 1839 in Richford, NY. When John was 7 he raised wild turkeys and sold them. When John was old enough he had his first job as a bookkeeper-clerk. When he was about 24 he married Laura C. Spelman. John opened another company with his friend, Samuel Andrews and called it Rockefeller and Andrews. Henry M. Flagler wanted to join Rockefeller and Andrews and he did. John got into the oil business in 1863 and his company got so big he formed The Standard Oil Company. In 1893 John bought a large piece of land in Pocantico. He gave an acre of it for a school to be built. John died May 23, when he was 97.
