Portrait of
John D. Rockefeller, Sr.
by Danny Co.
John D. Rockefeller was born in Richford, NY on July 8, 1839. When he was 4 he moved to a farm. He went to a one room school house. When he was older he raised wild turkeys and stuffed them up and sold them. He got his first job as a bookkeeper-clerk. When he was about 24 he married Laura Celestia Spelman. John opened an oil business with a friend and called it Rockefeller and Andrews. Henry M. Flagler joined Rockefeller and Andrews. People started to make funny things (cartoons) about John in the newspaper because he was taking over the oil business and was getting richer. John was about the richest man in Cleveland. John donated $600,000 to the University of Chicago. When he got older he spent time with his grandchildren and he gave out dimes to people who needed them. He died on May 23, 1937.
