A Portrait of
John D. Rockefeller, Sr.
by Carolyn

John D. Rockefeller, Sr., was born on July 8, 1839. The interesting thing about John D was that he was born poor and died the richest man in the world. One day John saw some turkeys. He watched them and fattened them up and sold them. That was his first business. In 1853 he moved near Cleveland, Ohio where he got his first job on September 26. He called this day Job Day. John was very charitable. He showed it most in 1887 when he donated $600,000 to a school for black women. To business men he was a monster but to his family he was a kind, loving man. Both sides were true. Even though he only had one heart, he had two sides of it.
