Richard M. Nixon
Patricia Ryan Nixon was who Nixon got married to. 4 brothers and no sisters Nixon had. The second kid in Nixon's family to be born was Nixon. Nixon's mom, a devout Quaker, was patient, kind, and conscientious. His father was a rather severe man whose chief interest was politics. After working for his father, Nixon took an interest in politics and started to read the newspaper. He was elected the 37th President of the United States. This victory followed two major political defeats. Nixon, with 301 electoral votes defeated Vice-President Herbert H. Humphrey. In his first bid for the Presidency in 1960, the Democratic Candidate, John F. Kennedy defeated him. In 1973, Nixon's Vice-President, Spiro T. Agnew, resigned from office after he was convicted of a felony. Nixon chose Gerald Ford to replace him. Then Nixon got in trouble too because of his involvement in a break-in at the Democratic Headquarters at the Watergate Hotel. The congress was getting ready to impeach him when he decided to resign. Nixon was the second President to face impeachment. Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974. Nixon was the first President to resign from office. Nixon announced the day before that he would resign the next day, to begin ''that process of healing which is so desperately needed in America." Nixon died on April 22, 1994, in a New York City hospital, 4 days after suffering a severe stroke. He had just finished his 11th book, "Beyond Peace." |
