Herbert Clark Hoover
Herbert Hoover was born August 10, 1874 by the Wapsinonoc Creek in West Branch, Iowa. He had one older brother (four years older) and one younger sister (two years younger). While his mom was pregnant with him she almost died, because of a certain disease. His father died when he was six and his mother died two years later. He was raised by relatives. He went to Stanford University in California and studied mining. Herbert Hoover moved his family around the world five times in five years. Later in 1908 he began his own engineering firm. He met his future wife Lou Henry a student in geology. He had two sons, Herbert Junior(1903) and Allan in 1907. He worked as a person who reorganized peoples` jobs. America declared war on Germany, so Herbert was called home to become an U.S. food administrator on April 6, 1917. His job was to feed the army and citizens. He was called home to take charge of food organization in America. He appealed to housewives to conserve food. As soon as Calvin Coolidge announced he did not want a reelection in 1928. Hoover was over flooded with letters and telegrams urging him to run for President. The Democrats nominated Alfred E. Smith, the first catholic to run for the Presidency. But he was still no match for Herbert Clark Hoover. It was still hard work after his Presidency. He moved all of his things from the White House and went back to Stanford. He worked 50 years in mankind service. |
